From the Lovato Jiu Jitsu Website:
Lovato’s School of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was very happy to have BJJ brown belt, Johannes Wieth, spend nearly two weeks training with us here in Oklahoma City. Johannes is Germany’s most accomplished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor having won the World Championships as a purple belt. Johannes runs a very successful school in Munich under the Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu flag and is a good friend of Rafael Lovato Jr. Johannes made the long trip from Munich to train with Black Belt BJJ World Champion Rafael Lovato Jr. and the rest of Team Lovato. Check out what Johannes had to say about his trip:
Hi, My name is Johannes Wieth. I live in Munich, Germany and have been practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for a little more than 6 years now. Since 2006, I have had the good fortune of being trained by Saulo and Xande Ribeiro. I also became a representative of Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu in Germany. It was Xande and Saulo who promoted me to brown belt after they leaded me to victory in the purple belt division at the World Championships in 2010. Compared to the U.S., the German grappling scene is still very small. There are just a few black belts and therefore most of the training groups are led from blue or purple belts. I never had a black belt in my town as a teacher so i’ve been depending always on seminars and training camps to make technical progress. I try to spend a total of 10-12 weeks a year in the United States to be able to learn from the best. Rafael Lovato Jr., I have known since I prepared myself for the Words in 2008 at Saulo’s academy in San Diego. Of course, I already knew who he was, but we had never met before. I really liked training with him because I like his style and we also have similar physiques. He leads a very successful team in Oklahoma City and I get along with him very well. So it was only a matter of time until I came to OKC for a few days to learn from him and to train. This has proven to be a very good decision. Rafael took very good care of me and his students offered me a place to stay right away. The training here is World Class! Rafael has great teaching skills so that everyone in class understands all the important details of the techniques and combinations. He also never forgets to emphasize and explain important competition strategies. His blackbelt student, Justin Rader, is in charge of the wrestling class. Another very good souce of knowledge and a very fun person to train with too. The whole Team is very friendly and I immediately felt comfortable, on the mat and off the mat. Everyone tries to help each other, therefore the good atmosphere in class leads to the great performance that team has in competition. I will definitely come back to Oklahoma City to expand my knowledge in BJJ, but also to see my friends that I have won here. Many thanks to Rafael, his wife Tina, and the whole team! I had a really great time!
We can’t wait to have you back Johannes!!!
